Why the Pressed Oil is Dark with Foam When Cooking

For the cooking oil manufacturers, the pressed oil with gold and bright color is our processing goals. But the common oil press machine, especially the old type oil press, would only produce the dark oil. What make this happen?
First, one of reasons is that the cooking oil is not pure enough and the impurity is not filtered thoroughly. 
The old type oil press is without fine filter system, they all filter the oil using the labor force. Of course, the raw material can' be pressed completely.
In addition, some new oil press machine has adopted air-pressure filtration, or called concept filtration, also can't filter oil thoroughly. In the first condition, its principle is that putting oil into a sealed container whose bottom is equipped with filter cloth and screen. And the oil outlet is below the filter cloth and filter screen. We need to Increase the pressure of the container, press the oil through the filter cloth and filter screen to achieve the purpose of filtering oil. The advantage of this method is fast speed of filtering oil. Yet the disadvantage is the excessive fast speed, and the large pressure would lead to impurity. 
In the second condition, the operation is complicated, after filtration, the operator needs to open the container to clean the oil residue. But cleaning is inconvenient and can not work continuously. This method uses two filter ways, one is adopting high air pressure filtration, and the standard of pressure resistance and air tightness of high pressure container is very strict. Otherwise, it is easy to lead to excessive pressure which would cause container burst and other potential safety hazard. So, when you purchase this kind of equipment, pay attention to check whether the machine manufacture has production qualification of high pressure container and qualified high pressure container.
The other has adopted vacuum filtration. Its principle is to take the air inside container away. And the filter cloth and filter screen is equipped on the top of container. When the oil flows through the filter cloth and filter screen, the oil would be sucked into container by vacuum. And the oil residue is left on the filter cloth and filter screen. When the oil filtration is finished, the pressure would be reduced automatically inside of the container to avoid potential safety hazard problems. Thus the oil was filtered thoroughly, and it is convenient to clean the oil meal.

We have done a detailed market survey and research of combine peanut, sunflower seeds, flax seeds oil, and rapeseeds oil,  and find that two other factors has lead to the  deep color and dark of the oil.

Secondly, there are hot press and cold press about  oil press methods. 
The pretreament is done before the hot press. In this method, the material is roasted until mature or medium mature, thus to improve the oil flowability in the crops and to increase the activity of the oil molecules. But at the same time, the fire temperature can't be completely controlled which would lead to the surface carbonization of the oil seeds. The oil crops carbonization would enter the press chamber through spin squeezing in the condition of high pressure. Carbide particles and tiny flakes mixed in oil will flow out from outlet. So the crude oil looks black which would affect the oil color and taste seriously.
The last but not least, crop linoleic acid and melanin, such as flax seeds and rapeseed, the pressed oil color is still dark, even using the cold press method. To solve this problem, you must use oil refining technology bleaching to achieve the very significant results.

Running-in Method for Newly-purchased Oil Press Machine


We all know that the newly-purchased oil press needs time to run-in during the early period. Old-fashioned machine needs a long time to adapt, So many manufacturers have launched the oil press machine which can be used to extract edible oil directly without running in. However, what you don't know is that the running-in of oil press machine is definitely different from the process of oil extraction. And simple machine test can do a lot to quickly put the machine into use.

Step 1: Before using the oil expellers, prepare assistive devices and container tape, check and adjust the tightness. And then start the motor for 15 minutes without feeding, check the rotate speed of screw shaft. The general speed should be about 33 min. Pay attention to the voice between gears, the bearing parts and motor. Also the motor current should be under control when idling. In addition, stop the machine immediately if the current is too strong, and then restart after adjustment.
Step 2: Master the billet temperature according to different oil plants. Feed the oil plants and water into the pressing plate. Press the tiniest position especially, relax stem nut, unplug the active pin, and the rotating bar is just on the side. Turn the rotating bar back to the starting position and tighten the piston at the same time. Press gently to deal with stress from the regular extrusion, too much force would lead to accident. For the oil plants of high oil content, press with the low-pressure pump for the first time, and replace with high-pressure pump for the second. If the pressure gauge point can't return back to zero, it's necessary to test, repair and replace. Open the return valve, the oil would flow back into the tank automatically, and then it's OK to remove the extrusion plate.
Step 3: After the above test, prepare about 50 kg (such as soybean, rapeseed) raw material for the hopper. Note: feed slowly at the beginning, or else the pressure in the chamber would increase, which would lead to serious accidents. Thus at the beginning of pressing, feed slowly and evenly, and repeat the above process for more than 3 ~ 4 hours, the temperature of the screw oil press would increase, or even smoke(this is normal ). At first, the temperature of the chamber might be low, twist and adjust the handle on the stud to increase the thickness of the cake and improve the moisture of the oil plants at the same time. When the chamber temperature rises to about 90° C, or say the oil press could operate normally, adjust the cake thickness to about 1.5 ~ 2.5 mm, and tighten the fixed nut.
Step 4: After normal operation, the raw material of high oil content are mostly concentrated in the bar came and the front exhausting. 60% of the oil comes from the bar came, and 30% from the front exhausting. While the discharged oil from the end is clear with little quantity. During this period, blend oil cakes of much oil into the raw material for twice pressing. Also, feed in a uniform and steady way, otherwise it will affect oil yield and the life of the hydraulic oil press.
Step 5: During the operation, check the condition regularly and control the oil plant moisture. Normally the oil cake is flaky, it feels smooth on one side while there are many pores on the other. If the cakes are loose or shapeless which could be pinched into pieces by hand, that shows the low moisture of the raw material. If the cakes are feeble, and most of them are flaky, that indicates high moisture.Under normal conditions, there is little or no residue from round rings. In addition, the oil outlet position would move according to the moisture of raw material.

Palm Kernel Oil Extraction


Nowadays, there are about 20 countries in the world producing palm oil. And the main producing countries are Malaysia, Indonesia, and Nigeria. Mechanical extraction
Mechanical extraction processes are suitable for both small and large capacity operations. The three basic steps in these processes are (a) kernel pre-treatment, (b) screw-pressing, and (c) oil clarification.

Kernel pre-treatment
Proper kernel pre-treatment is necessary to efficiently extract the oil from the kernels. The feed kernels must firstly be cleaned of foreign materials that may cause damage to the screw  oil press, Magnetic separators commonly are installed to remove metal debris, while vibrating screens are used to sieve sand, stones or other undesirable materials.

A swinging hammer grinder, breaker rolls or a combination of both then break the kernels into small fragments. This process increases the surface area of the kernels, thus facilitating flaking. The kernel fragments subsequently are subjected to flaking in a roller mill, revolving at 200-300 rpm. The thickness of kernel cakes is progressively reduced as it travels from the top roller to the bottom. The flakes that leave the bottom nip are from 0.25 to 0.4 mm thick.

The kernel flakes are then conveyed to a stack cooker for steam conditioning, the purpose of which is to:adjust the moisture content of the meal to an optimum level, rupture cell walls (initiated by rolling), reduce viscosity of oil, coagulate the protein in the meal to separate the oil from protein materials.
The important factors are temperature, retention time and moisture content. In the palm kernel, the meals are normally cooked to a moisture content of 3 percent at 104-110°C.

Canola Oil Production

Canola oil is a key ingredient in many foods. Its reputation as a healthy oil has created high demand in markets around the world, and overall it is the third most widely consumed vegetable oil in the world.
Rapeseed was once considered a specialty crop in Canada, but canola now has become a major American cash crop, and rapeseed is the highest-producing oil-seed crop in the USA. Canada and the United States produce between 7 and 10 million tonnes of canola seed per year. Annual Canadian exports total 3 to 4 million tonnes of the seeds, 800 thousand tonnes of canola oil and 1 million tonnes of canola meal. The major customers of canola seed are Japan, Mexico, China, and Pakistan, while the bulk of canola oil and meal goes to the United States, with smaller amounts shipped to Mexico, China, and Europe. World production of rapeseed oil in the 2002–2003 season was about 14 million metric tons. In the 2010–2011 season, world production is estimated to be at 58.4 million tonnes. The United States is a net consumer of canola oil, having used 3 billion pounds in 2010, 2.5 billion of which was imported from Canada.
The Canola Oil Extraction
Step 1: Roll the seeds with a sheller to rupture cells and make the seeds easier to be extracted.
Step 2: Heat the seeds slightly and feed them to the oil press machine for the first process which removes some of the oil and compresses the seeds into canola meal.
Step 3: Canola meal undergoes further processing to remove the remaining oil content. The oil content in the rapeseed ranges from 37.5% to 46.3%. So this step can’t be neglected.
Step 4: Combine the oil extracted during each step , and then subject them to processing according to the end product requirements. Different treatments are used to process salad oils, margarines, and shortenings.
